Smart Dog WineryTM

a smart dog can sniff out a good wine

About Smart Dog Winery

I am a professional engineer with a background in mining and project management.  I currently reside with my wife and our smart dog in Northern California, midway between the Napa Valley winery's and the Livermore Valley winery's.

Since coming to California over 40 years ago I have come to like and appreciate wines.

I am now starting (again, but this time the RIGHT way) to learn the art and craft of wine making.  And this website is about that experience.

Smart Dog

And yes I changed my logo.  Wanted to get some polo shirts with the logo embroiderded on.  The old logo was too complicated, so I came up with a more generic version.

The old logo was Prince a rough coat McNab Border Collie.  Prince was a very smart dog and was very good at sniffing out good things.  While Prince is no longer with us, our current border collie (Red) is also good a sniffing out good things (and playing chase with balls and other toys).

On 19 June 2015 I sampled my 2011 Petite Sirah, my 2012 Syrah, and my 2014 Vognier and Pinot Gris at the 2015 Ruth Bancroft Gardens (http://www.ruthbancroftgarden.org/
) Scuplture Show to good comments (many repeat customers). Gave me a good feeling.

Got a nice thank you letter from then:

Thank you all so much again for your generous donation and gracious service of your wines on Friday’s Preview Party. We grossed over $24,000 that evening.

The Garden couldn’t be here without the wonderful help of folks like you.

Best,
